Wedding Locations in Costa Rica

Choosing your dream day location!

The amazing diversity of Costa Rica’s scenic beauty offers a selection of spectacular panoramas where breath-taking landscapes blend together with an extensive choice of small or large luxurious hotels, resorts, villas and mountain or jungle hideaways. Brides and grooms often wonder, “Which area is best for us?” To answer that question, let me give you my general impression of various regions, and then for more specific details, please feel free to call me.

The Guanacaste Region

Guanacaste is located in the northern part of the country, famous for its gorgeous Pacific beaches and spectacular sunsets. This wedding location beckons lovers of the sea, sand and surf and has different beach communities, each with distinctive characters of their own. For instance, Playa Flamingo offers a stunning white sand beach and elegant accommodations dotting the surrounding hillsides, as well as several larger hotels. The beach of Playa Conchal is made up of tiny pieces of shell instead of sand, which are soft to the touch, and has an upscale resort. Playa Potrero is a quiet beach community consisting mainly of small hotels and private houses. Playa Tamarindo offers a long stretch of beach as well as International restaurants and more extensive night life, which might be more appealing to some couples. A rocky headland separates Tamarindo from the quieter haven of Playa Langosta, which also has a few small hotels, as well as the Barcelo, all inclusive resort.

The Papagayo Peninsula, located in upper Guanacaste, and the surrounding coast line boasts the still relatively peaceful Playa Hermosa, Ocotal and the colorful beach town of Playas del Coco. This entire area affords one an opportunity to have a more successful sunset wedding, as this area has a longer dry season and is known, therefore, as the “Gold Cosat.”

The Nicoya Peninsula Region

The Nicoya Peninsula beach towns of Playa Nosara, Playa Samara, Tambor and funky Montezuma boast a combination of chic getaways and laid-back accommodations. The small communities of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa are a surfers’ paradise and have a choice of small hotels, villas on the ocean and in the hills, and cabins to rent.

The Central Pacific Region

The Central Pacific is one of the most popular beach destinations. Jaco, which is a little over an hour from the Nation’s capital of San Jose, is a popular, close destination from International airport, and a party town. Herradura Beach offers full-service, upscale resorts with unforgettable ocean views and first class service. The Playas Esterillos have an interesting mix of small, low profile beachfront hotels and a few, boutique upscale establishments.

Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most popular destinations, with jungle covered hills that slope down to meet the white sand beaches. It tends to a busy location, with charming hotels, large and small that sprawl-up the hillside, nestled in the rainforest or overlooking the ocean. Manuel Antonio with its unforgettable sunsets, plus abundance of flora and fauna, is the answer to the dream of a tropical wedding come true.

The Caribbean Region

Along the Caribbean coast, the distinctive culture of the laid-back communities offer a tropical Shangri-la. Pristine beaches, lush tropical vegetation and the beat of Reggae and Calypso accompany the spicy aromas of Caribbean cooking. Cahuita and Puerto Viejo offer plenty of interesting, moderately priced places to stay. Overlooking the ocean or nestled in the jungle along the road south from Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo, you will also find unique accommodations.

The Arenal Volcano & Monteverde Cloud Forest

Alternatives to the pounding surf abound, but the swirling mists of the cool Cloud Forest of Monteverde, home to the Quetzal, sets the scene for a wedding at an altitude of over 4,500 feet. There are upscale hotels or cozy family run establishments, some with fireplaces, to choose from in this mountain-top aerie. The cone-shaped Arenal volcano does not guarantee to spew out a pyrotechnic display of fire and brimstone as you say “I do” but it produces thermal waters for the famous hot springs in which you can relax before or after the wedding.
